Heartflare Scimitar
Weapon (scimitar), Rare (requires attunement)
Damage: 1d6 slashing
Properties: Finesse, Light
Weight: 3 lb.
Item Description
The Heartflare Scimitar is a gracefully curved blade of polished steel, warm to the touch. Veins of ember-red light pulse faintly beneath its surface, brightening in response to strong emotion. Set into the guard is a heart-shaped ruby that flickers like a living flame, flaring brightest in moments of passion, fury, or devotion.
When swung in combat, the blade leaves arcs of shimmering heat in the air, and those struck by it often feel a sudden rush of burning emotion alongside the physical wound.
Heartflare
The Heartflare Scimitar feeds on emotional intensity.
Once per turn, when you hit a creature with this weapon after you have taken damage since the end of your last turn, the target takes an additional 1d8 fire damage.
This extra damage represents the blade igniting in response to pain, anger, or passion.
Burning Passion (1/Long Rest)
– When you take damage that reduces you to half your hit point maximum or less, you may use your reaction to ignite the Heartflare Scimitar for 1 minute.
– The weapon sheds bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet.
Once on each of your turns, you may deal an extra 1d8 fire damage on a hit (this stacks with Heartflare).
– If you reduce a hostile creature to 0 hit points while this effect is active, you gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.
The flames die down early if you are incapacitated or drop the weapon.
